Biography

Mr. Charlie Brown received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Music from Amherst College and his Master of Education in Mathematics Education from SUNY at Buffalo. During his tenure at The Gow School, he has taught mathematics and economics, coached soccer and lacrosse, and served as Summer Academic Dean and as the Mathematics Department Chairman. In 1998, he accepted his current position as Director of College Advising. He continues to teach mathematics classes and is the Head Coach of the Varsity Lacrosse team. In 1994, Mr. Brown received the Lowell L. Lundell Award for Excellence in Teaching. Students and alumni always comment on his willingness to offer extra math help after study hall in his campus home, Hill House, on Emery Road.

Mr. Brown enjoys gardening, ornithology, composition, music, and lacrosse. He is an expert whistler, and his classical music renditions carry across campus as he walks to work every morning. He and his wife Alice have two grown children.
