Athlete of the Week

Each week, one student is recognized for his/her contributions to Gow’s athletic program.
The recipients for the 2016-17 school year are listed below.

Athlete of the Week - Laurent '17Laurent '17 - May 15, 2017

Two tennis players received the final Athlete of the Week award for the 2016-17 school year. Laurent B. and his teammate, Jose C., earned a spot in the finals of the MMHSAA Doubles Championships for the first time in Gow School history. Congratulations Laurent!

Athlete of the Week - Jose '17Jose '17 - May 15, 2017

Jose C. shared Athlete of the Week honors with his tennis doubles partner Laurent B. Jose and Laurent were seeded second in the end-of-the-season MMHSAA Championships. They beat their first two opponents in straight sets, and they lost a tough match to Canisius in the finals to finish in 2nd Place overall. Great job Jose!

Athlete of the Week - Jack '20Jack '20 - May 8, 2017

Once again this spring, the Athlete of the Week award went to a Modified Lacrosse player. Jack D. scored four goals in the team’s first meeting with Depew Middle School, and he helped lead the Ravens to a 10-2 victory. Way to go Jack!

Athlete of the Week - Gannon '18Gannon '18 - May 1, 2017

Gannon W., a member of the Outdoor Education group, was the most recent Athlete of the Week. Gannon was part of the team that climbed Mt. Marcy, New York’s highest peak. He was instrumental in leading a 15-hour expedition that made it to the summit and back. His guidance and attitude helped his teammates to negotiate very challenging and difficult terrain. Great work Gannon!

Athlete of the Week - Hunter '20Hunter '20 - April 24, 2017

This week's Athlete of the Week award went to 9th grader Hunter S. Playing at the goalie position, Hunter was instrumental in the Modified Lacrosse team’s Parents Weekend 5-3 victory over Notre Dame. Congratulations Hunter!

Athlete of the Week - William '17William '17 - April 17, 2017

Athlete of the Week honors went to Varsity Tennis Captain Will M. Will anchored the team at 1st Doubles in the Ravens’ early season victory over Nichols. Playing one of the best matches of his career, he displayed exceptional attitude and effort. Way to go Will!

Athlete of the Week - Kade '17Kade '17 - April 10, 2017

Varsity lacrosse player Kade K. was this spring’s first Athlete of the Week. Kade scored six goals in the team’s season opening 10-1 victory over Niagara Falls. Keep up the good work Kade!

Athlete of the Week - Nick '20Nick '20 - March 6, 2017

Squash player Nick O. was the final Athlete of the Week for the winter season. According to his coaches, Nick was competitive in every match. It didn't matter if he was winning or losing; it was impossible to tell. Nick’s attitude and fortitude on the court were second to none. Congratulations Nick on a great performance!

Athlete of the Week - Josh '19Josh '19 - February 20, 2017

The latest Athlete of the Week was ski racer Josh A. Josh won first place in the Boys’ Division of the Section VI High School Race Series. Over the course of the season, Josh competed in races at Holiday Valley, Kissing Bridge, and the Buffalo Ski Club. Great work Josh!

Athlete of the Week - Nick '18Nick '18 - February 6, 2017

Wrestler Nick S. received this week’s Athlete of the Week award. Competing in the 138lb weight class at the MMHSAA Championships, Nick won two matches, took 3rd place, and earned a berth in the State Championships next weekend at St. Francis High School. Way to go Nick!

Athlete of the Week - Luc '20Luc '20 - January 30, 2017

Athlete of the Week honors went to JV Basketball player Luc B. Luc recently stepped into a starting role for the team, and he scored a clutch 3-point shot late in the St. Mary’s School for the Deaf game that allowed the Ravens to take the lead. Congratulations Luc!

Athlete of the Week - Max '20Max '20 - January 23, 2017

Max C. was this week's Athlete of the Week. Max competed in the Niagara Falls JV Wrestling Tournament, won his weight class, and earned two pins along the way. Great work Max!

Athlete of the Week - Jacob '21Jacob '21 - January 16, 2017

For the second time this year, Jacob F. received Athlete of the Week honors. Jacob is the starting guard on the Modified Basketball squad. So far this season, he has averaged 18 points a game and has helped led the team to a 5-0 start. Way to go Jacob!

Athlete of the Week - Jack '19Jack '19 - January 9, 2017

The first Athlete of the Week award for 2017 went to Jack K. Jack is a first year wrestler. In his inaugural competition against Springville-Griffith Institute, he won his match 18-3 on a technical fall. Congratulations on a great win Jack!

Athlete of the Week - Stone '17Stone '17 - December 12, 2016

Wrestler Stone G. was the latest Athlete of the Week. Stone competed in the team’s first tournament of the season at Orchard Park. He defeated four wrestlers to take 1st Place in the 220lb weight class. Keep up the great wok Stone!

Athlete of the Week - William '18William '18 - December 5, 2016

Varsity basketball player William S. received the first Athlete of the Week award for the winter season. Will came off the bench in the team's opening game of the season; he scored 7 points and captured many rebounds. His great efforts helped the team turn an 11-point deficit into a 12-point victory over Houghton. Way to go Will!

Athlete of the Week - Lorenz '17Lorenz '17 - November 7, 2016

The final Athlete of the Week for the fall season was cross country runner Lorenz S. Despite feeling under the weather, Lorenz competed in his final All Catholic Championships at Knox State Park. Lorenz ran a strong race and crossed the finish line. He could easily have decided not to run, but the competitor in him chose otherwise. Congratulations Lorenz on a great race and a great cross country career at Gow!

Athlete of the Week - Courtney '17Courtney '17 - October 31, 2016

Athlete of the Week honors went to cross country runner Courtney W. Courtney was the only girls runner for Gow in the last two races, one of which occurred for the first time on The Gow School campus. Taking advantage of the cheering home crowd, as well as the support of friends and coaches, Courtney earned a personal record of 22:58 in her race. Great work Courtney!

Athlete of the Week - Zachary '18Zachary '18 - October 24, 2016

Golfer Zachary E. received the Athlete of the Week award after earning a spot in the starting line-up this year and taking full advantage of his position. In the final match of the season, Zach teed off on the 9th hole at Elma Meadows and drove the green. He shot par with a nice putt and clinched the win for the varsity golf team. This final victory helped secure the team's second straight division title. Congratulations Zach!

Athlete of the Week - Keifer '19Keifer '19 - October 10, 2016

Varsity soccer defender Keifer M. was the most recent Athlete of the Week. Keifer and his teammates rebounded from an early season league loss to Central Christian Academy when they traveled to the CCA Falcons’ home turf and defeated their opponent 3-1. Keifer led the team with stellar defensive play and scored the final goal on a penalty kick to seal the victory. Way to go Keifer!

Athlete of the Week - Zachary '18Zachary '18 - October 3, 2016

This week's Athlete of the Week award went to golfer Zachary S. Zach medaled in a win over Cardinal O'Hara and helped the team to its 2nd straight Monsignor Martin Division A Title. Perhaps even more impressive was that Zach paired with a golfer from Japan who barely spoke any English. Zach found ways to communicate and guided his opponent, who scored the best match of his season, through the course. It's this kind of sportsmanship that we love to honor at Gow. Great work Zach!

Athlete of the Week - Jacob '21Jacob '21 - September 26, 2016

Modified soccer player Jacob F. was the latest Athlete of the Week. Jacob scored eight goals last week and helped lead the team to a perfect 3-0 record to start the season. Congratulations Jacob!

Athlete of the Week - Gabriel '17Gabriel '17 - September 19, 2016

The second Athlete of the Week award for the month of September went to varsity soccer player Gabriel C. Gabe scored one of Gow's three goals in the Varsity Soccer team's win over visiting Nichols, 3-2. Earlier in the week, Gabe completed 20 laps in the annual Gow School Ski Hill run. He outlasted all of his teammates by several laps. Keep up the good work Gabe!

Athlete of the Week - Jude '19Jude '19 - September 12, 2016

Jude O. received the Athlete of the Week award after participating in the 2nd Annual Chestnut Ridge Tennis Tournament. He won a tough three set first round match in the 3.5 division, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. In the semifinals, Jude lost another tough three set match, 6-4, 4-6, 4-6. After the tournament, both of his opponents complimented Jude on his outstanding sportsmanship. This positive attitude and spirit often set Gow competitors apart from the field. Way to go Jude!
