Event Recap: Buffalo High School Squash League Championship Match
The squash team wants to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your support throughout the season.
The team broke new ground and played in our first ever league championship match. We played Nichols on their courts last Thursday evening.
The Ravens tried to rebound after a disappointing finish to the National Championship tournament the previous weekend. Nichols sent out the same ladder of players they did when they won the third division consolation final. We knew it would be a tall order to knock the perennial league winners off of their pedestal.
The boys stepped out onto the courts with one goal in mind, and they did everything they could to accomplish it. Gow’s #2 player, Robert won the first game of his match. He pushed a very talented Nichols player to the brink. John Ed. and Walker M. played very inspired squash, but came up just short in the win column. Kithsen was unlucky not to have won his first game. Many knicks and unlucky bounces added to his misfortune. George, Oudou, and Toma all gave it their all and proved a lot to their teammates as well as the opposition.
It was an important milestone for the Gow School squash program. Even though we didn’t win any hardware, we hold our heads high and know that we gave it everything we could. We accomplished so much more than we ever thought possible.
The team will use the final two weeks of the winter athletic season to crown a new Little Seniors Cup winner.
Thank you again and we’ll see you at the courts next year.
