The Ravens opened the season with a good performance at St. Mary's of Lancaster, and despite losing showed some pluck and resiliency. 

Gow played a sloppy first half and were down 2-0 inside the first 20 minutes.  Ibby K. pulled one back on a breakaway, beating the opposing sweeper and sliding the ball past a helpless keeper from in close. 

St. Mary's regained their 2 goal advantage on a nice cross to the far post, but the Ravens remained undeterred.  Josh B. sent Aurel L. in on another breakaway.  Aurel forced the keeper to make two saves from point blank range, but Josh, having followed his pass, pounded home the second rebound to make the score 3-2.  It was unfortunate that Gow surrendered a goal 5 seconds before the end of the first half as the Ravens could not garner any momentum. 

The second half began as poorly as the first.  Keeper Greg K, who had not been feeling well, failed to get low on a shot from in close, and the ball slid under his hands for a 5-2 deficit.  With 20 minutes remaining, Gow won a seemingly harmless free kick on their half of center.  Coach Marshman was confused to see his forward Ibby preparing to take the kick, but soon rejoiced when Ibby's kick bounced at the 18-yard line, over the keeper's head and into the goal.  Gow mounted a few more attacks to no avail and the game ended 5-3.
