Event Recap: In a game that was eerily similar to the first contest of the season, The Ravens defeated the visiting Park Pioneers 3-1 to bring their season winning percentage up to .500. As in the first contest, both teams were held off the scoresheet in the first half. There were chances both ways, but the keepers played steadily and came up big when they had to.
Gow scored soon after the restart off some quick thinking in the attacking third. Ibby took a throw in quickly, and Robert pounced on a lose ball to drive home his fifth goal of the season from close range. 10 minutes later, Rush pushed the lead to 2-0. Sam C. sent Bjorn down the right wing, and he took the ball to the flag before crossing it. After a slight touch from Eddie P., Rush found time and space and made no mistake on the finish. The Ravens owe much of the credit for their third goal to some great individual effort from Ibby. He dribbled through defenders to create a chance at the top of the 18, and though Park's keeper came out to the top of the box and made a great save, Eddie was in the right place for the rebound. He placed the ball into the vacated net for his first goal of the season.
Park made a game of it late in the contest. They scored on a penalty following a handball in the box to make the score 3-1. And with under 5 minutes to go, they could and should have reduced their deficit to a single goal. After a scramble in the box, a solid strike was headed for the top left corner. Greg K.'s hand seemingly came from out of nowhere to swat the attempt around the right post. It was a key save at a key time of the match.
Gow hosts Saint Mary's of Lancaster Friday, and then are off for a week for fall break. |
