Event Recap: Gow's JV team took to their home court to face West Seneca Christian School on Thursday afternoon. Although the Ravens played their best offensive game of the season, they dropped a back and forth battle with WSCS 53-41. Gow started quickly with Toby L. nailing a 3 pointer early in the first quarter. The JV team's strong ball movement against WSCS’s 2-3 zone generated quality shot opportunities; however Gow missed several lay-ups and WSCS held an 11-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Ravens continued their strong play on offense, and although they missed several lay-ups, they continued to create high percentage shot opportunities and scored 17 points in the first half. Unfortunately, WSCS found gaps in Gow's zone defense and scored 16 points in the second quarter to take a 27-17 lead into the half.
The Raven's move to man-to-man defense in the second half paid off early in the third quarter, and they quickly cut WSCS’s lead to four points. Despite this progress, the JV team missed several good looks at the basket on fast break chances. WSCS took advantage of the opportunity to hit their open looks and reclaim the lead. Gow came out in the fourth quarter in a full court press and forced several turnovers that lead to easy lay-ups. Two more times, Gow was able to cut into WSCS's lead. Even so, the inexperienced JV Ravens were a little loose with the ball. WSCS converted unforced turnovers into runs of their own to regain control of the game.
Point guard Toby L. led the Ravens in scoring with 14 points, and Aurel L. scored 10. Bjorn T. scored 8 points, and Viktor M. added 6. Noah F. finished off Gow's scoring with 1 point. Although they did not show-up on the scorebook, Nick U., Ricardo B., Austin R. and Vaibhav N. contributed quality minutes off the bench for The Gow School Junior Varsity Ravens. |
