4H Presentations for Cornell University Cooperative Extension Service will take place on The Gow School campus on February 23rd and 26th in the Reid Art Center beginning at 6:00 p.m. Under the guidance of Reconstructive Language Department Chair Kathleen Rose and RL teachers Mr. Daniel Kelley, Mr. Bryan Clayback, Miss Lynn Ottaway, Mr. Mark Szafnicki and Mrs. Julie Tarry, approximately 40 Gow middle school students are organizing, planning and practicing demonstrations or illustrated talks that have to be a minimum of five minutes in length. The students are working earnestly to develop a topic with visual aids and to express their ideas effectively with poise. Some of the topics chosen were: The Art of Making Tea, Making Sushi, How to Pack a Suitcase for a Trip, ShamWow Informercial and Outfitting a Fishing Tackle Box.
This year, two returning upper classmen have asked to present and several sophomores will serve as junior evaluators. There will be 4H members from Erie County also presenting on those evenings, so the Gow students will be able to see other types of presentations beside their own.
Parents are invited. If you are interested in attending, please call Mrs. Rose at (716) 687-2088. She will be happy to rearrange the schedule, if needed, so your son will present on the day you plan to visit.
Look for results of the presentations in the next couple of weeks. Good luck, Govians!
