During Winter Designated weekend, eight students and their chaperones, Mark Szafnicki, Director of Athletics, Albert Wright, English Department Chair, and his wife, Anne, flew to Eagle, CO, and then bussed to Steamboat where they skied for three days. Although their bus broke down and they had to wait for another bus to pick them up, spirits remained high. Arriving in Steamboat, the group checked out the town and looked forward to their time on the mountain. Each day was a new experience with the falling of fresh Champagne powder that Steamboat is known for. On a day without snow, powder stashes were found in the trees. "The tree runs and the steep bowls were phenomenal," said Mr. Szafnicki. Each night, the students and chaperones went into town for dinner and shopping, taking free public transportation back and forth to the village. As the altitude was much lower than they had experienced on previous trips, none of the students got altitude sickness. The group arrived back on campus, a little tired, but exhilarated from all the fresh air and activity on the mountain. It was a trip to be remembered.
