The Gow School Leadership Retreat

June 21 - 23, 2021

The goal of the Leadership Retreat is to identify, nurture, and develop the next set of leaders in our types of specialty schools. The retreat is all about connecting, learning, laughing, and sharing in a casual atmosphere with ample time for reflection and camaraderie. Funded this year by a grant from the Tower Foundation, this retreat offers rich content. This year the retreat is limited to 60 participants.  The Gow School will provide all meals and accommodations on our boarding school campus just 30 minutes away from the city of Buffalo, NY. June is the ideal time on our green, lush campus with ample space for hiking and exploring with a colleague.

If you have registered for this year's retreat, thank you!  The programming committee is asking that our participants fill out two surveys, linked below:

While The Gow School is the host of the retreat this year, a programming committee has been working hard on the schedule.  The committee members are Annette Fallon at the Jemicy School, Jamie Williamson at the Winward School, Dan Blanch at Camperdown Academy, Betsy Fanning at Trident Academy, Stephanie Royal at Marburn Academy and Lisa Murray at The Schenck School.  They are now in the process of developing the program details and speakers.

2021 Leadership Retreat topics include:

  • Power of Storytelling
  • Managing Finances in a Crisis
  • The Who, What & How of Strategy
  • Difficult and Courageous Conversations
  • Head of School Search Process
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging
  • Maintaining a Positive Faculty Culture

Optional campus tours of The Gow School, time in affinity groups, opportunities to build leadership skills for aspiring heads, current heads, teacher leaders, and lively social activities round out the 2 1/2-day retreat.
