Athlete of the Week
Each week, one student is recognized for his/her contributions to Gow's Athletic program. The recipients for the 2017-2018 school year are listed below.
Jude O. '19 - May 14, 2018
The final Athlete of the Week for the spring 2018 season is given to Jude O., Varsity tennis. Jude competed in the MMHSAA singles championships and took 2nd place. Jude is only the third Gow tennis player in history to make the finals. Along the way, Jude defeated the #2 seeded player from Canisius in 3 sets before losing to the top seed. Congratulations Jude.
Gervais H. '20 - May 7, 2018
This week's Athlete of the Week Award goes to Gervais H. Gow has been working on building a Track & Field team for the future. In a track meet with three schools last week, Gervais won his heat in the 100m and 200m sprint. Congratulations Gervais!
Ben W. '21- April 30, 2018
This week's Athlete of the Week Award goes to Modified Lacrosse player Ben W. Ben stepped up in the absence of several key players and anchored the team's defensive unit. Despite a close loss to Nardin, the defensive unit played well under his leadership. Congrats Ben.
Luc B. '20- April 23, 2018
This week's Athlete of the Week award goes to varsity tennis player Luc B.. Playing 2nd singles, Luc won convincing victories over division rivals Niagara Catholic and St. Francis. Luc's victories solidified the team's win in both matches. Well played Luc!
Nasser K. '18- April 16, 2018
This week's Athlete of the Week award goes to Varsity lacrosse player Nasser K. who scored the winning goal in a double overtime period, giving the Ravens a 7-6 win over Niagara Falls in their first outing of the season. Congratulations Nasser.
Connor S. '18- April 9, 2018
Connor S. was named the first Athlete of the Week on April 10th. Prior to spring break, the tennis team hosted Akron High in a scrimmage. Connor played an outstanding match at 3rd singles. Though he lost 8-7 in a tie break, Connor showed tremendous fortitude and resiliency. He played with the style Coach Szafnicki would like to see from all of his players, fearless and with confidence. Congratulations Connor.
Erek N. '18- March 5, 2018
The final Athlete of the Week for the winter season is Varsity basketball starting forward, Erek N. As a senior, Erek is a threat both offensively and defensively. He never takes a play off and is always in the center of the action. In both playoff games, Erek's productivity helped the team advance to the finals. Congratulations Erek.
Max O. '18- February 19, 2018
This week's Athlete of the Week Award goes to squash player Max O. Max was the lone victor for Gow in the team's final match of the season v. Nichols. Max's positive energy and enthusiasm as well as a desire to improve are a great asset to the team. Congratulations Max.
Nasser K. '18- February 5, 2018
This week's Athlete of the Week award goes to Varsity basketball player Nasser K. Nasser scored 15 points in the team's come from behind victory over league foe Falk. Congratulations Nasser.
Jahiem J '21- January 29, 2018
This week's Athlete of the Week award goes to JV Basketball player Jahiem J. In the 5 games this past week, Jahiem averaged 12 points a game, and in the team's win over Chesterton Jahiem had a triple double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. Jaheim exemplifies everything we value in Gow athletics, leadership, hard work and good sportsmanship. Nice job Jaheim.
Hunter '21- January 22, 2018
This week's Athlete of the Week award goes to ski racer Hunter H. Hunter competed against racers from Williamsville and Ellicottville schools in a GS race at Kissing Bridge last week. In two runs through the course, Hunter's combined times earned him top honors for Gow and 3rd place overall, earning him a spot on the winner's podium. Congratulations Hunter!
Tyler '24- January 15, 2018
Tyler S. is leading the charge on the modified basketball team. Although they are still seeking their first victory of the season, the modified team is working hard in practice, and Tyler scored 12 of the team's 14 points in their last game, and leads the team in scoring. Congratulations Tyler.
Max '20- January 8, 2018
Max C earned Athlete of the Week honors in our first week back from winter break. Just before break, Max pinned his opponent in a varsity wrestling match against Canisius. Max earned Gow's only points in the match. Way to go Max.
Luke '20- December 11, 2017
This week's Athlete of the Week award goes to varsity wrestler Luke M.. Wrestling in his first ever match against St. Joe's, Luke not only won his match, but pinned his opponent. Congratulations Luke, and we look forward to many more to wins to come.
Peter '18-December 4, 2017
The first winter Athlete of the Week goes to Varsity basketball player Peter K. Peter led the way for the Ravens in their home opening 42-34 win over Houghton Academy. Peter scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds along with a steal and 3 blocked shots. Way to go Peter.
Otto '20-November 6, 2017
The final Athlete of the Week for the fall season is awarded to Otto P., boys cross country. Otto earned a first place finish for Gow beating out his teammate by a mere 5 seconds in the MMHSAA championships at Knox State Park. Although very wet and rainy conditions did not produce top times, Otto ran an excellent race and won his first race for Gow. Congratulations Otto.
Matthew '19-October 30, 2017
Matthew captained the defensive unit for the varsity soccer team, which held both The Park School and St. Mary's of Lancaster scoreless in IAC Championship and WNY Small School Championship games respectively. Great job Matthew!
Keifer '19- October 30, 2017
The week's Athlete of the Week award goes to Varsity soccer striker, Keifer M. Keifer scored a total of six goals in two playoff games, including the winning goals in OT against Park. Keifer led the way as the Ravens won the IAC Championship tournament. Congratulations Keifer.
Jared '19- October 25, 2017
This week's Athlete of the Week award goes to Varsity soccer midfielder Jared S. Jared scored the winning goal in overtime to defeat The Park School of Buffalo, and to help the Ravens clinch a share of the IAC league title for the 2nd straight year. Congratulations Jared!
Carson '18-October 9, 2017
This week's athlete of the week is boys cross country runner Carson W. Carson broke a three year old school record on the Gow campus course with a time of 18:50, besting the previous mark by 11 seconds. Congratulations Carson.
Jack '19-October 2, 2017
The second athlete of the week goes to Jack K. Jack stepped up to compete as a starter for the first team on the varsity golf team. His score helped the team to defeat division rival Park. Great job Jack!
Victoria '18-October 2, 2017
This week's Athlete of the Week was awarded to two golfers. First golfer was given to golfer Victoria. Victoria stepped up to compete as a starter for the first team on the varsity golf team. Her score helped the team to defeat division rival Park. Congratulations to Victoria!
Emma '18 - September 25, 2017
This week's athlete of the week award goes to Coxswain Emma R. of the crew team. According to her coach, Emma was very nervous before the race was hard on herself after it. This race in particular had a lot of turns, bridges, and other crews to navigate around. Her voice could be heard from the stands motivating the crew. She did a fantastic job. Congratulations Emma.
Alberto '20 - September 19, 2017
The first Athlete of the Week award for the fall season was given to Alberto B. In his first game playing varsity soccer, Alberto scored 2 goals in the team's win over Cardinal O'Hara on Friday. Congratulations Alberto!
