  • Head Coach

Mr. Jim Kaufmann arrived at The Gow School in 2011 after a twenty-three year career with the Buffalo Police and Data Processing Departments. Mr. Kaufmann is a home grown Western New Yorker who finds the Elma/East Aurora/South Wales community a wonderful place to raise a family.

Mr. Kaufmann graduated from SUNY at Geneseo with a degree in Management Information Systems and a passion for participating and coaching many different sports. As a father of two boys, he has spent many weekends and holidays at athletic competitions as either a coach or a fan. When The Gow School Golf program began in 2012, Mr. Kaufmann assumed the role of Varsity Head Coach. In the past, he also assisted with Gow’s Varsity Basketball team.

As a graduate of nearby Iroquois High School, Mr. Kaufmann is an active member in his local school district and community. Currently, he serves as Vice President of the Iroquois Foundation, and he is a Board Member of Boys and Girls Club of Elma, Marilla & Wales, Iroquois Baseball, and Iroquois Hockey.

Mr. Kaufmann is an avid hometown sports fan. He enjoys the thrills provided by the Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bisons, and Buffalo Bills, and he looks forward to the day he can share the excitement of either a Sabres Stanley Cup or Bills Superbowl Championship with his family and friends.

  • Assistant Coach

Mr. Brian Thompson began working at The Gow School in 2011, after graduating from SUNY Geneseo with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Although he taught History for several years and has a background in Gifted Education, Reconstructive Language quickly grew into his passion. In 2015, Mr. Thompson earned his Master of Science in Education degree in Differentiated Instruction from Canisius College and was honored with an Innovator Award as an Outstanding Teacher from The International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC). Mr. Thompson succeeded Mrs. Kathleen Rose as the Chair of Gow’s Reconstructive Language Department upon her retirement in 2019.

Mr. Thompson's interests include reading and listening to music. His favorite musicians and bands are Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews Band, and Pearl Jam. Mr. Thompson has been fortunate enough to see Clapton in concert three times and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band ten times. Mr. Thompson is also an avid golfer. He plays in a summer golf league with several other Gow faculty members and was the league’s MVP in 2017. Some of his favorite golf memories are going to the Masters and playing TPC Sawgrass, Harbour Town, and the Sea Island courses with his dad and twin brother. He has also visited the Old Course at St. Andrews.
