Gow’s athletic program is instrumental to academic success and integral to the school mission. Sports provide a physical outlet to the rigors of the academic day, an opportunity for student-athletes to set and achieve goals, and the means to develop a lifelong interest in good health and physical activity.

As in the entire Gow experience, creating a level playing field is key. Our structured interscholastic program allows athletes of various abilities to compete at different levels. We field coed varsity, junior varsity, and modified teams in basketball and lacrosse, varsity and modified squads in soccer. Smaller programs—cross-country, volleyball, outdoor education, golf, wrestling, squash, recreational skiing and snowboarding, alpine ski racing, and tennis—are organized to build confidence and skills.

Guiding our teams are dedicated coaches who are experts in their sport and in working with dyslexics. Because many are Gow faculty, they get to know their athletes well—in class, in the dining hall, and around campus as well as on the field or court. Above all, coaches are committed to developing athletes with strong moral character. Several coaches and teams have received sportsmanship awards from their peers and athletic associations—hardly surprising considering the quiet confidence with which Gow students typically show their pride.
