Last Tuesday, November 28th, was #GivingTuesday, and The Gow School did not miss the opportunity to raise money for an organization. Tuesday night after study hall, five of Gow's junior firefighters went door to door collecting donations from students and faculty for the South Wales Fire Department.
The South Wales Fire Company is volunteer based and relies heavily on donations to keep running. Not only does Gow have several faculty and staff members who are volunteer fire fighters, but five Gow students are junior fire fighters. Becoming a junior fire fighter at Gow is not easy, and the School is proud of the commitment our students have made.
On Tuesday, in under two hours, Gow students and faculty donated over $600.00! We were able to present the money to Marty O'Connor, Director of Buildings and Grounds and First Assistant Chief for the fire department. Ben F '18, who was one of the junior fire fighters asking for donations, said that "Everyone gave something, which was great to see. Even when students didn't have any bills, they would search for change in their dorm room to donate."
