    College Admissions Q and A

Our Director of College Counseling hears many of the same questions from juniors and seniors every year. Here are the answers, which we hope will help any family working through the college search.

    For Juniors

When Should I Take the ACT or SAT?

Plan ahead and look at the fall test dates of your senior year as well as spring dates this year. Your college counselor can help you choose.

    What Matters Most Right Now?

Focus on what you can control. Colleges look closely at your junior year.

    • Stay connected with your teachers. Check in often, keep up with assignments, and ask for help with projects and anything you don't understand.
    • Stay connected with the College Counseling office. Meet with your counselor regularly.
    • Check your email every day. Teachers and the school use email as their main way to reach you. Read it and respond.

    For Seniors

When Do I Have to Decide?

Many colleges ask for a decision by May 1, but dates vary. Call the admissions office at each college you are considering to confirm its deadline.

How Do I Choose Between My Final Schools?

If you are still deciding between two or three schools, go to their admitted student days, in person or online.

I'm Getting Too Many College Emails. What Should I Do?

By now your list should be down to two to four schools. Unsubscribe from the rest. Letting colleges you won't attend know your decision will also cut down the email.
