Top 10 Questions About Spring at Gow

Spring may feel far away, but we are already planning the end of the year. The last weeks of school are full and busy, so here are the questions families ask us most. You'll find this year's dates on the school calendar.

    1. When Is Spring Testing?

Spring testing happens in April. Afterward, you will receive a report comparing your child's skills with those of students the same age and grade nationwide.

    2. What Is the Awards and Cresting Ceremony?

This spring event, once called Spring Parents Weekend, recognizes students for their activities and leadership. It is followed by the Senior Cresting Ceremony, when seniors receive their crested blazers. Because it falls close to Commencement, we know not every family can attend both. Photos are shared afterward for families who can't be there.

    3. When Should We Arrive for the Ceremony?

The ceremonies start early, so we recommend arriving the day before. There are no organized parent events that evening, but you are welcome to watch a game or match on campus once athletics begin.

    4. Can I Take My Child Off Campus That Night?

Yes. Students need to be back on Sunday afternoon in time for dinner and study hall.

    5. Will My Child Sit with Me at the Ceremonies?

No. Students sit with their advisors. You are welcome to have lunch together with other families afterward.

    6. Why Is Commencement Two Days?

Commencement weekend includes three ceremonies over two days. The first day brings the Athletic Awards Ceremony in the morning and Honors Convocation in the afternoon. The second day is Commencement itself, celebrating the graduating class.

    7. How Will I Know If My Child Is Receiving an Award?

Our Development Office will contact you ahead of time and let you know which day the award will be presented.

    8. Does My Child Have to Attend Every Event?

Yes. All students attend all three ceremonies. They are required class days. It is a special time, and for some students it is the last chance to see graduating friends.

    9. When Can Students Move Out?

Students may leave once Commencement ends. Most families stay for one last Gow lunch and to say goodbye. By mid-afternoon, campus is quiet.

    10. What Happens to a Bookstore Balance?

If your child is returning, the balance rolls over to next year. If not, you can donate it to The Gow School Annual Fund or ask the Business Office for a refund check.
